The coronavirus pandemic and other structural changes in the I/DD community have significantly altered how the Intersect for Ability organizations will work now and in the future. Agencies want and need a method of providing quality, individualized, daily activities for participants, no matter where they spend their day. In 2020, The Coleman Curriculum Project Team selected an online platform to host a knowledge management system (The Current) that the project team used to create, edit, and publish activities for community day services, residential services, and participants’ homes. The goal of this phase of the project (June 2020 – March 2021) was to populate the database with a rich assortment of 500 activities created by members of the project’s fifteen partner agencies. The Current would then become a viable curriculum alternative for use on a daily or weekly basis. Today, 250 staff members can access the Current throughout the partner organizations to facilitate engaging activities for the individuals they serve.
After the initial push to create 500 unique activities, we entered The Current – Phase 2 on April 1, 2021, which will take us until the end of the grant. We plan to add 300 activities to the database during this phase, increase reader numbers, and promote alternative ways to use the Current.
Knowledge Owl, the knowledge management platform hosting The Current, was intrigued by how Intersect for Ability utilizes The Current to share resources among the fifteen agencies.
